Even Netflix changes its mind sometimes.

The streamer has reversed its earlier decision to end the drama series “Beauty in Black” after Season 3. Last week, Netflix announced via Tudum that the Tyler Perry-created series would be renewed for Season 4.

The unexpected reversal comes after Netflix’s December announcement that the third season would be the last. The renewal follows strong performance from the show’s second season, which spent six weeks in the Netflix Global Top 10 and claimed the top spot in 17 countries.

Tyler Perry’s Reaction

“Beauty in Black is back for Season 4, and the Bellarie family’s story is far from finished. There was so much more I wanted to explore, and I’m grateful I get to keep telling this story,” Perry told Tudum.

“To the audience that has been on this ride with us from Day 1, thank you for watching and sharing it with the world. More episodes are on the way!”

Perry created, directed, wrote, and executive produced the series.

The Show

The series follows two women whose lives become intertwined. Taylor Polidore Williams plays Kimmie, who struggles financially after being kicked out by her mother. Crystle Stewart portrays Mallory, who runs a successful business.

The upcoming third season, which does not yet have a release date, will feature Kimmie gaining a seat at the Bellarie table. A deadly family feud forces her into an alliance with Mallory as they navigate blackmail and revenge while an escalating conflict threatens to destroy the entire beauty empire.

Cast

Cast includes Amber Reign Smith, Xavier Smalls, Ricco Ross, Julian Horton, Steven G. Norfleet, Richard Lawson, Terrell Carter, Bryan Tanaka, Charles Malik Whitfield, and Debbi Morgan. Supporting cast members include Bailey Tippen, Rodrigo Aburto, Randall J. Bacon, George Middlebrook, and Jasmine Burke.

The Bottom Line

Netflix reversed its decision to cancel Tyler Perry’s “Beauty in Black” after Season 2 performed strongly, spending six weeks in the Global Top 10 and topping charts in 17 countries. The series has been renewed for Season 4. The upcoming third season will feature Kimmie gaining a seat at the Bellarie table amid a deadly family feud.
