The giant American e-commerce company, Amazon, has announced that it is looking forward to recruiting qualified individuals for seven positions who were based in Lagos, Nigeria. The company disclosed this via an advertisement announcing the various positions on LinkedIn, the career social media site.

According to the enterprise, the empty positions include associate solutions architect, Europe, Middle East, Africa -EMEA start-up scaling team; start-up segment leader, sub-Saharan Africa, Amazon Web Services -AWS start-ups; senior partner sales manager, Nigeria, and Kenya.

The global e-commerce company is expected to commence its operations in Nigeria by 2023 as part of its move to expand to Nigeria, South Africa, and other countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia. Already operational in 20 countries, this move will see the e-commerce giant begin operations in Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Nigeria, and South Africa come April 2023.

The e-commerce company will generate a marketplace in all five countries along with access to Amazon’s fulfillment service named Fulfilment by Amazon.

The entry of Amazon into Nigeria’s e-commerce space will further increase competition in the online store sector dominated currently by Jumia, Konga, and Jiji. But, regardless of being present in 20 countries with large economies, Amazon’s presence in developing nation markets such as South America and Africa has been relatively low.
