Michael Carrick might be handed the responsibility of overseeing the side’s Champions League tie with Roma on Tuesday, but the loss at Chelsea, has only increased the PRESSURE he already faced.
The defeat was United’s ninth winless run and the worst start they have made to a campaign since 1988. But United’s hierarchy are willing to give Carrick the chance to arrest the slide until the next international break.
Owen was at risk of losing his job last Monday after a conversation between football director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada.

United are 17th in the Premier League with seven points, below the relegation zone on goal difference.
The visitors’ travelling legion continued to support Carrick during the poor sequence of results at Stamford Bridge. The manager also confirmed he anticipated to be leading the team for the game against Roma.
“We have to continue progressing and pick up the wins, that is just the way it is,” he said.
In the meantime, ex-Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has been identified by Wilcox as the best candidate to replace Carrick if the club decided to sack him. Recruitment director Christopher Vivell is said to rate Julian Nagelsmann highly and has reached out to him.
United will have to wait until their next league game against Aston Villa to be re-evaluated.
