The message from Nigeria medical council has been like a fatal blow to students just rescued from the Ukraine crisis after it was disclosed that long-distance learning which was a norm in Ukraine was not recognized in the country. This was a very cold and formal message.

One student, Moses Damilola Fehintola said that the bad news was sent to him via his WhatsApp, it read:

“We wish to inform the General Public that the Medical and Dental Degree Certificates which the Medical Schools from Ukraine will issue starting from 2022 will not be honored by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria until when normal academic activities resume.”

“The bad news hit me hard, there are so many thoughts on my mind” Moses confessed. But, despite the medical certificate battle, Sumy State University and other Ukrainian institutions are still managing to provide online courses, with this development, Fehintola harbors hope that his dream of working as a medical doctor will come to fruition after all. But with the latest announcement from the Nigeria medical council, he isn’t so sure of his dreams. Fehintola has described the policy as discriminatory.

Another Student from the war-torn country, Grace Ladi Musa who was in the fifth year of her medical degree at the Kyiv Medical University before the war broke out has confessed that the present situation in her motherland was just not fair and that she hopes that the Ministry of Education in Nigeria would rethink its policy.
