Nigerians and Super Falcons are certainly happy as fate seems to be smiling on them after qualifying for the Women’s World Cup yesterday. Oshoala, Waldrum, and Gift make up the final shortlist for the Confederation of the African Football Awards.
Asisat Oshoala, the winner of quadruple Best African Player of the Year awards, was nominated for CAF’s Player of the Year 22 and made the final shortlist to compete for the award with nine other nominees for CAF women’s Player of the Year. We can recall that Oshoala, the super Falcons, and Barcelona Striker were banned from the WAFCON tournament after suffering an injury in the opening game of WAFCON against Bayana Bayana of South Africa. She was immediately flown to Spain for treatment.
Rivers forward Monday Gift, who made three appearances as a substitute for Super Falcons in WAFCON 22, was also nominated in the Young Player of the Year Award category, and she made the final shortlist. Well, not only that but she was also nominated for Inter-Club Player of the Year. And their club Rivers United was also nominated for the Club of the Year Award.
Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum also made the shortlist for the Coach of the Year award, which he deserves.
The voting panel made up of the CAF Technical Committee, media representatives, head coaches, and captains from the member associations and clubs involved in the 2021/22 club competitions will decide the winners. The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 21, 2022, in Rabat, Morocco
