Leaving Inter Milan for Chelsea last summer was a mistake – Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku Bolingoli is a Belgium international soccer player who plays for Serie A club Inter Milan on loan from Premier League club Chelsea. It was shocking when Lukaku revealed he regretted returning to Chelsea from Inter Milan last summer.

Lukaku, a former Chelsea player, returned to Chelsea for €97m. It turned out that the homecoming didn’t go the way he had envisioned as he didn’t perform as expected, scoring just 8 goals in 26 appearances.

In December 2021, he revealed in an interview that he regretted his decision to return to Chelsea. This admission infuriated his coach Tuchel and his teammates. He finally got his wish in July when he returned to Inter Milan on loan, Tuchel further admitted he doubts Lukaku will ever play for Chelsea. It’s quite funny because it was the Belgian player who wanted to leave the Italian club but got nostalgic and wanted to return to Inter Milan.

“The biggest challenge of my career will be here this season,” he said at an event to launch Inter’s new kit for next season.

“I walked away. It was a mistake, right Nico?” he jokingly asked teammate Nicolo Barella.

“Now I’m happy to wear this shirt, the team knows what we have to do, it’s going to be a big challenge this season and we have to keep going like this.

“I realized last season in England how important Inter is in the world. The club’s profile is improving internationally, the social media approach is also very important and you can see how we behave in the dressing room, in training, in our hugs and jokes.

“Milan is a wonderful city and that’s why I kept the old apartment when I went to London because my mother used to come here all the time and I wanted to go back too.”

Can Lukaku’s case be compared to Ronaldo’s? It seems the return to Manchester United wasn’t what he envisioned either
