Parents and guardians in some of the rural schools in Anambra State have asked the governor of the state Chukwuma Soludo to deploy security operatives to the various schools in the state, as a preventive measure against the dangerous gunmen in some parts of the state.

The cause for this recent alarm, the parents have said, is because of the shifty security situation. This has led parents in the state to withdraw their wards from schools, alluding that the governor’s action in providing security would encourage them to return their wards to school.

A Friend of Friends Schools proprietor in Nnewi, Mr. Festus Okeke- Enyobi, reported that with the reintroduction of the Anambra Vigilante Group -AVG, which has been operating in the state, there would be adequate security personnel to go around the schools.

The school head had said: “The state of insecurity in the state, especially, in and around Nnewi, Ihiala, Ekwusigo local government areas, requires security presence in all the public/private schools to boost the students’ confidence while in their classrooms.”

According to Okeke-Enyobi, the re-introduction of security in schools would also aid in the improvement in the quality of education in the state. The school proprietor then went on to plead to the politicians and philanthropists in the state to aid the state government in its efforts to control the security situation in the state.

He bemoaned the decline of social amenities in state-owned schools, adding that apart from insecurity, most schools in the state also lack electricity, water, and sports facilities

A parent, Mr. Ignatius Maduka reports that the population of several schools in the rural areas of the state had significantly dropped since the activities of “unknown” gunmen rose in the state and suggested that communities should strengthen their vigilante outfits to complement those established by Governor Soludo.
