Muhammad Bello, The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister has tagged the beggars and street traders from neighboring states in the country for the growing insecurity in Nigeria’s capital.

The minister had, according to a statement read by the Director of Information and Communication in the FCT, Muhammad Sule, reported this at a meeting with the security committee in the FCT on Friday, 26 August 2022. The committee, chaired by Bello is expected to work with community leaders to create an effective vigilante network in the local communities.

Represented at the meeting by the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramotu Tijani-Aliyu, the minister said the committee had finalized plans to launch resuscitated G-7 Security Joint Operation in September.

The statement read: “The Security Agencies in the FCT have upped their game and people who have no business being here are being sent away. Some of them come under different guises such as begging, and street trading, among others. They usually come from neighboring states and are causing security breaches here. That is why we have decided to send them out.”

Abuja has been witnessing numerous attacks by Boko Haram insurgents and other terrorists in the past month.
