Accused of attacking a police officer in Lagos, embattled Nigerian rapper Ice Prince, actual name Panshak Zamani, has been granted bail. The development was confirmed by his attorney, Folarin Dalmeida, in a Friday afternoon interview with PREMIUM TIMES. On Thursday, according to Mr. Dalmeida, his client was released from the Nigerian detention facility in Ikoyi, Lagos. He said that “his bail requirements have already been satisfied, and he was released yesterday (Thursday)”.
The rapper was granted bail with two responsible sureties in the amount of N500,000 by the magistrate court in Ajah, Lagos. Due to the absence of the prosecution witnesses on Wednesday, the case came to a standstill. However, Mr. Dalmeida made no remarks or references regarding the absence of the prosecution witnesses at the last hearing.
The rapper was detained on September 2 and is now accused of assault, impeding police work, and kidnapping on three counts. The prosecution’s attorney requested a court adjournment when the prosecution’s witnesses failed to appear when the trial resumed on September 7. The case has been postponed until October 24.
The rapper hasn’t released an official statement regarding the incident, and neither has his management group.
