According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 10.63 million and 10.81 million customers of Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) were present in Nigeria in the first and second quarters of 2022, respectively.

This is supported by the Nigeria Electricity Report for Q1 and Q2 2022, which was made public on Tuesday by the NBS in Abuja.

The study focuses on the energy bills, revenue, and consumers that DISCOS earned during the period under examination.

The study states that quarterly, the total number of customers for the reviewed period increased by 1.67 percent.

According to the study, there were 10.78 million consumers in Q1 2022, a 1.36 percent decrease from Q1 2021.

Similar to this, there were 2.27 percent fewer clients in Q2 2022 than in Q2 2021 (11.06 million).

According to the report, there were 4.79 million metered customers in Q1 2022 and 4.96 million in Q2 2022, representing a 3.53 percent increase from quarter to quarter.

However, as compared to the 4.33 million consumers recorded in Q1 2021 and the 4.53 million in Q2 2021, there were growth rates of 10.71% and 9.54% in Q1 and Q2 2022, respectively.

According to the report, the expected number of billing clients was 5.84 million in Q1 2022 and 5.85 million in Q2 2022, a rise of 0.14 percent from quarter to quarter.

When compared to 6.45 million in Q1 2021 and 6.53 million in Q2 2021, the expected number of billing customers fell by 9.45% in Q1 2022 and 10.45% in Q2 2022, respectively.

According to the report, the power supply was 5,956 GWH in Q1 2022 and 5,227 GWH in Q2 2022, a decrease of 12.23% from one quarter to the next.

However, compared to the 6,172.19 (Gwh) and 5,882.57 (Gwh) reported in Q1 2021 and Q2 2021, respectively, power supply decreased on an annual basis.

According to the report, the DISCOs generated 204.74 billion in revenue in Q1 2022 and 188.41 billion in Q2 2022.

This represents a reduction of 7.97% quarter over quarter, according to the report.

According to the study, year over year, revenue collected increased from 183.74 billion in Q1 2021 to 185.24 billion in Q2 2021, respectively, by 11.42% and 1.71%.
