Major cities in the country including Abia and Enugu were thrown into darkness, yet again, on Monday, September 26 as the national grid collapsed again for the 7th time this year. The last recorded national system collapse was on June 13, 2022.
According to reports, the National System Operator’s data held that as of noon on Monday (today) no power generation plant was on the national grid. Additional checks revealed that as of 10 am, 19 plants were generating a combined power of 3,302 Megawatts with the Shiroro Hydro at 573MW.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC, EEDC, via a notice to its users informed its “esteemed customers of a system collapse which occurred at 10:51 am today, September 26, 2022. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network.
“Due to this recent development, all our interface TCN stations are currently out of supply, and we are not able to provide service to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and the Imo States.” The Electricity company’s notice had read.
“We are still on standby awaiting detailed information and orders about the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre -NCC, Osogbo” Emeka Ezeh, Head, Corporate Communications remarked.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, which manages the grid is still yet to give reasons for the newest grid collapse at the time of this report.
