The Independent National Electoral Commission -INEC, has yet to release the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System -BVAS, an electronic device used to read Permanent Voter Cards -PVCs and verify voters in any of the states in the South-East region, according to reports.
The five affected states include Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Abia, and Imo State respectively.
However, the INEC Administration Secretary in Enugu, Mr. Chidi Nwafor, who spoke at an ECOWAS event in Enugu revealed that the commission had acquired non-sensitive materials except for the BVAS which, according to Nwafor, was because of the activities of unknown gunmen in the South East.
The Electoral Administration Secretary had also said that the commission was lacking vehicles, and the national quarters had not replaced the ones burnt in an attack by unknown gunmen at the headquarters of the commission in Enugu.
However, Nwafor said that the Electoral Commission database had been cleared of any files to prevent errors and potential virus(es) ahead of the election. He had also expressed faith that early logistics movement and time would resolve a lot of the election issues the commission had come upon in times past, using the Osun and Ekiti governorship elections as prime examples.
