At least 600 health workers have allegedly exited the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Oyo State, in the past one year.

It was discovered that up to 15 nurses, doctors and pharmacists, and several others resign from UCH on a weekly basis.

The NAN has already reported that the hospital management has urged for the removal of the bottlenecks so that they can replace the workforce efficiently, due to the mass exodus of health workers.

Prof Jesse Otegbayo, the UCH Chief Medial Director, had made the call during a news conference marking the 65th Founder’s Day celebration of the foremost tertiary health institution in Ibadan on Monday, November 21.

Otegbayo had revealed that from 2020 to October 15, 2022, at least 600 clinical staff had left the hospital, while remarking that bureaucracy bottlenecks had been hindering finding replacements for those that had left immediately.

He had then revealed that there was an acute shortage of manpower due to push and pull factors like poor workers’ welfare and insecurity, among several other factors.

Otegbayo, had however, commended the staff members of the institution for their dedication and commitment to uplifting the institution by putting in their best and respecting their patients.
