The Governor of Anambra state has sympathized with the victims of the fire which affected part of Kano street behind Main market Onitsha.
The message was delivered by his press secretary, Chris Aburime.
According to the Governor, they are working on ways to improve the strength of the state firefighters, he also praised them for helping to curtail the spread of the fire.
He also advised that safety regulations as regards fire should be strictly followed to prevent the future occurrence of such
“I commiserate with the shop owners over the inferno.
“Efforts of our emergency responders like the state fire service contributed to extinguishing the fire and I find their efforts heartwarming,” he said.
“The governor wishes to use this opportunity to reiterate the need for citizens to adhere to fire safety measures, particularly in this season of the year,” he stated.
Markets are very prone to fire outbreaks, especially such large markets like the Onitsha Market, Fire outbreaks in such places do not usually end well, considering the number of people buying and selling, lives are lost at times. So it is a prerequisite that traders and buyers strictly avoid whatever will cause a fire outbreak.
