The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) has confirmed that the woman killed by a passenger train on the Chikakore axis in Abuja’s Kubwa region on Thursday morning was one of its employees.

The NTA confirmed the victim’s name as Selimota Idowu Suleiman in a statement on its verified Twitter Page Thursday evening. She worked at the NTA’s Channel Five station in Abuja until her death.

The victim, whose car was crushed by a fast-moving train in Abuja on Thursday, December 15, was identified as an NTA employee.

The deceased was on her way to work when her vehicle was smashed by a train.

On Thursday, December 15, the Nigerian Police Force’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command confirmed the tragedy and said it had initiated an inquiry into the incident through its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, a deputy superintendent of police.

According to reports, Suleiman’s car was unable to drive quickly because an oncoming train from Kaduna to the Kubwa terminal collided with it.

On Thursday, December 15, sympathizers gathered at the scene of a train collision with a car in Chikakore, Kubwa, FCT.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) reinstated the Abuja-Kaduna train service 13 days ago, months after it was discontinued following a Boko Haram attack on one of the trains serving the route on March 28.

Following the NTA’s confirmation of the identification of the Kubwa train crash victim, the Chairman of the FCT Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Emmanuel Ogbeche, stated on his Facebook Page that the victim was a journalist. He did not, however, mention her name.

Many journalists who commented on the post expressed outrage at the situation, citing the fact that the council had lost one of its members, Joe Nwankwo, less than 24 hours before the train accident.
