On Thursday evening, a petrol truck drove off the road and caught fire at Apata in Oyo State’s Ido Local Government Area, destroying a filling station, stores, and residential buildings.
Also, some automobiles parked along the road were damaged, but the exact extent of the damage could not be determined at the time of this report.
According to an eyewitness, the car was on its way from the Apata loading depot when the tragedy occurred. The car lost control and slammed into some shops along the roadside, spilling its contents and eventually catching fire.
When called, the state Director of Fire Services, Mr. L.A. Adeleke, confirmed the event.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) has recommended motorists take alternate routes to avoid gridlocks till normalcy returns to the scene of the Apata fire incident.
This was stated in an emergency alert sent by the Authority’s Executive Chairman, Akin Fagbemi when the incident occurred on Thursday.
