The media arm of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council has denied reports making rounds that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi will be quitting the election exercise earmarked for February 25.
According to the Obi-Datti Media Office, the report was tagged ridiculous and fake while additionally accusing certain unnamed political parties of putting Obi’s image on gift items to give Nigerians the impression that the Labour Party candidate was trying to win votes through inducements.
There have been reports that Obi would step down for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar as he had been Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election under the PDP platform.
However, the media office in a statement issued by the media office on Friday, January 27 partly read:
“Nothing can be more absurd than the fact that 18 individuals are in a marathon to pick a trophy and somebody is hinting that the front runner in the race who is already sighting the trophy would step down for somebody behind.”
“After being confirmed to be ahead of the presidential race by four scientifically conducted opinion polls, it is therefore laughable to suggest even as a joke, that Obi is contemplating stepping down, for who, for God’s sake?”
