A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, set April 3, 2023, as the start date for the trial of an actress, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, accused of spraying fresh Naira notes during a party.

After granting Omoseyin bail in the amount of N5 million with one surety in the same amount, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke set the date.

It should be noted that the actress was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with spraying fresh Naira notes at a party.

On February 13, the anti-graft agency specifically charged the actress with tampering with a sum of N100, 000.00 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by dancing on it.

S. I. Sulaiman, counsel to the Commission, contended that the offense violated and was penalized under Section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

Omoseyin pled not guilty to the accusation, prompting her lawyer, Adenike Gonçalves, to request bail for her client pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The lawyer also asked Justice Aneke to hold her client in the custody of the EFCC awaiting the completion of the bail terms, if any were granted by the court.

In his response, the prosecutor stated that bail is at the discretion of the court and that if release is granted, the conditions of the bail term should allow the defendant to be present during the trial.

However, in his judgment on the bail application, Justice Aneke ordered that the surety must be a civil servant on Grade Level 12 or higher, with documentation of three years of tax payment, among other things.

The actress was also remanded in Kirikiri Prison till the completion of her bail terms, according to the court.

On February 1, 2023, operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) detained the actress along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, and handed her over to the EFCC for investigation.
