The Lagos Police Command has summoned five police officers accused of extorting N155,000 from a student.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesman, announced this on Twitter on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Hundeyin, the officers were summoned to the state headquarters in Ikeja. An assistant superintendent of police and four inspectors were among the officers.
The cops pledged to keep everyone updated on the situation.
Sanni Faruk, a polytechnic student, claimed that five police officers from Meiran Division extorted N155,000 from him on Sunday.
He accused them of pushing him out of a bus on his way to school at Abule-Egba, handcuffing him, and transporting him to Meiran police station.
Before being released, he was forced to transfer money from his bank account to an OPay account, according to Mr. Faruk.
According to the student, the N155,000 seized from him was supposed to be used to pay for school accommodation.
