It has been confirmed that Christain Atsu died from the earthquake that happened in Turkey on February 6, as the information was released by his agent today.

The more painful thing about Atsu’s death is that he canceled his flight leaving Turkey after he scored in Hatayspor’s match against Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super League clash. His 98th-minute goal encouraged him to stay behind.

This information was released by his administrative manager, Faith Illek. According to her, Atsu planned on going to visit his family but having scored in his debut game he canceled his ticket. However, that decision cost his life,  as the earthquake happened at 4 am the next day.

“He didn’t play against Gaziantep FK, but scored a last-minute goal in the Kasımpasa match,” Ilek told Turkish outlet Radyospor before Atsu’s death was confirmed.

He was going abroad to visit his family. But when he played well and scored, he canceled his ticket.

“The earthquake happened on his happiest day. He had a flight at 11 pm. Canceled the ticket.

“There was an earthquake at 4 am. Absolutely a tragedy.”

Fans and friends have taken to social media to mourn his loss, even Chelsea his former club, posted a picture of the player on their page.
