The National Institute of Security Studies (NISS) has recruited the assistance of the Nigerian Communications Commission to establish strategic partnerships that would improve the application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) toward enhancing national security (NCC).

During a recent visit to the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, NISS Director of Research Estimates and Library Services, Dr. Adegboyega Karim, said the call was part of a fact-finding mission to advance ongoing research that focuses on globalization and regional integration for sustainable development in Africa.

He emphasized that the Commission has contributed significantly to the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy and that its regulatory framework offers an excellent chance for collaboration so that the team may carry out further research on telecommunications and national security-related issues.

Executive Intelligence Management Course Sixteen Participants (EIM16), a study group with representatives from various security agencies operating under the auspices of NISS, including senior officers in security agencies such as the military, police, intelligence services, and other pertinent agencies, were led to the Commission by Karim.

Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, Director of Special Duties of the Commission, welcomed the team on behalf of Danbatta and reaffirmed the Commission’s openness to working with the Institute and any commercial or public institution devoted to national development.

Adinde reiterated the developments in ICTs and stated that it is in this context that the Commission has continued to advocate for the establishment of a solid digital infrastructure that can support and enhance the security of people and property.

Agenda provided the visiting delegation with information about NCC’s initiatives to ensure adequate protection for telecoms facilities throughout the nation where they are treated as Critical National Infrastructure (CNI), including the construction of Emergency Communications Centers (ECCs) throughout states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as several collaborations with pertinent agencies to ensure effective connectivity to people and institutions.
