The Divisional Police Officer of 9th Mile Police Station, Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Obidike Chukwudi had on Monday, March 13, shot at his junior colleague inside the police facility.
Recall that the Superintendent of Police had previously detained the Inspector (name withheld) for purportedly leaving his duty post.
Multiple sources had afterwards reported that Obidike had shot the inspector while they were both inside the cell in the course of an argument.
The action of the senior police officer violated the Nigeria Police Force order 237 which guides the use of firearms by police officials.
As of the time of writing this report, no further actions have been taken toward the erring DPO.
