The Borno State Police Command has stated that it is looking into a case involving a soldier who allegedly shot and killed Sgt. Ahmed Ali, a police officer, after the latter stopped a vehicle transporting what is thought to be Indian hemp.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday at a checkpoint for entry in Benishek, Kaga Local Government Area of the state, when the troops in the Acura Sport Utility Vehicle, driven by Sgt. U. Joseph, refused to submit to a proper inspection.

According to local and security sources, the police squad shot at the vehicle’s tire to compel the driver to stop after the troops refused to do so at the checkpoint. However, as the soldiers attempted to drive the vehicle to the Benisheikh police station, Sgt. Ali was killed by the soldiers.

When the Crack Squad attempted to seize the vehicle, the soldier carrying the Indian hemp, identified as Sgt. U. Joseph and his fellow soldiers tried to stop them. This resulted in a shooting, and Ali, who was reversing with the vehicle, was killed by the bullet, one of the security sources revealed.

The car is parked at the Benisheik police station, and it has been learned that the suspect is currently in military custody.

According to a military source, the incident occurred accidentally as a soldier by the name of Ibrahim Waberi shot at the car to prevent the dead person from moving it.
