The federal government has released a five-year strategic plan to improve internal security to further bolster efforts to put an end to insecurity and its associated negative effects on individuals and the economy.
The importance of the newly launched strategic plan’s potential impact on national security and the promotion of good governance cannot be overstated, according to Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of the Interior, who made the plan public yesterday in Abuja. Internal security is essential to both national security and prosperity.
He claimed the five-year plan for the Ministry and its Services and Board was the aftermath of the second Ministerial Strategy Retreat held at Ilorin, Kwara-State in 2021, where the decision was reached to develop a strategic plan that would serve as a guide for all the programs, projects, and policies of the ministry, its Services, and Board in achieving its overall ministerial mandate of encouraging the maintenance of internal security and citizenship integrity for the promotion of national security
The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) are among the departments and boards under the ministry through which the plan would be carried out.
The plan aims at the achievement of established goals and objectives of the ministry, its agencies, and the board for both the short- and long-term, according to Dr. Shuaib Belgore, the permanent secretary of the ministry, who provided additional details on the plan’s functionality.
