Nigeria had 154 million internet users in the fourth quarter of 2022

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), there were 154.8 million internet users in Nigeria in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2022.

The number of active internet users in Q4 2022 was 154,847,901, according to NBS’s most recent telecoms statistics report, which was published on Friday. This is an increase from the 141,971,560 customers reported in Q4 2021.

According to the bureau, the rising trend indicated a 9.07 percent increase in internet subscribers for the industry over the time under consideration.

In addition, the report stated that the total number of active voice customers increased to “222,571,568 from the 195,463,898 reported in Q4 2021” in the fourth quarter of 2022.

This reflects a 13.87 percent growth rate, according to the agency.

Quarterly, however, voice subscribers increased by 4.89 percent, according to NBS.

In Q4 2022, Lagos state had 26,460,867 active voice users, followed by Ogun with 12,994,352 and Kano with 12,373,201, according to state profile data. Ebonyi and Ekiti came in second and third, with 1,920,996 and 2,001,846, respectively, while Bayelsa had the lowest number with 1,571,692, according to the bureau.

Additionally, Lagos had the most active internet customers (18,702,394) in Q4 2022, followed by Ogun (9,206,614) and Kano (8,470,131). As opposed to this, Bayelsa had the lowest number (1,101,002), followed by Ebonyi (1,264,825) and Ekiti (1,474,970), in that order.

However, MTN Nigeria has the greatest percentage of subscriptions in Q4 2022, according to NBS.

The analysis reveals that in the analyzed quarter, MTN Nigeria had 65 million internet subscribers, followed by Globacom (43 million), Airtel (41 million), and 9mobile (4.4 million).

MTN was in first place with 89 million active voice subscribers.

While Globacom and Airtel both reported 60 million voice customers, 9mobile only had roughly 12 million active voice members.
