Nigerian students besieged in Sudan are being urged by the Nigerian Embassy in Khartoum to ignore the National Association of Nigerian Students’ request for them to gather for evacuation.

NANS Sudan urged students stranded in the nation to get ready for evacuation to Ethiopia in a statement dated Sunday.

This is a result of combat that has claimed hundreds of lives and left numerous foreign nationals stranded between the forces of Sudan’s army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the rival Rapid Support Forces of his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

A disagreement over the RSF’s intended incorporation into the regular army sparked combat on April 15.

The student body informed the students of the evacuation plans on Sunday and requested that they also have $100 ready for transportation.

In response, the Nigerian Embassy issued a circular signed by H.R. Garko, stating that it “wishes to inform all students in Sudan, that they should disregard the notice circulated by NANS in Sudan, calling students to converge at the three locations namely: African International University, NANSS Office and El-Razi University, for evacuation or to bring 100 or $200 for evacuation.”

The Embassy underlined that without authorization and assurance from Sudanese officials, traveling approaching the country’s frontiers remained risky.
