Four police officers were killed in an attack on Friday, April 21, in Imo state, and at least eight individuals have been detained in connection with the crime.

In a statement he released today, Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Command’s public relations officer (PRO), said the suspects, who were detained in groups, had admitted to belonging to the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to Okoye, Mathew Chuwkuma, the first person detained, admitted to being the Sector Commander of the IPOB/ESN organization in Mbaise and provided information that helped three more people be detained.

Other syndicate members, according to the PPRO, engaged the police in a gunfight. However, after being overcome by security personnel, many of them fled the scene suffering from gunshot wounds.

He added that various incriminating materials, including an AK-47 rifle, three pump action firearms, two locally built single barrel guns, one locally made handgun, and one cut-to-size gun, were found in the suspects’ hideout.

In the Ngor-Okpala region of Imo state on Friday, two police officers and a couple were shot and killed.

Before a group of armed men arrived and started shooting at the officers, they were eating at the couple’s nearby restaurant.
