According to government officials, a passenger bus in Cameroon collided with a truck, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 19 lives, on Friday, May 26.
Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, the Transport Minister had revealed that the ill-fated bus was en route to the southern town of Eseka when it veered out of control and collided with a heavy-duty truck carrying sand. The impact was so severe that the majority of passengers on board lost their lives at the scene of the accident.
This fatal crash occurred on the Douala-Edea road, near a police checkpoint. The injured victims were promptly rushed to hospitals in the capital city for urgent medical attention, added Minister Bibehe.
Authorities have attributed the collision to reckless driving and have initiated an investigation, as reported by Cameroon’s state television. Regrettably, road accidents have become a frequent occurrence in this Central African nation, with an estimated annual death toll of around 1,500 individuals.
