Report has it, that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has summoned former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, for interrogation.

Ortom dutifully appeared at the Makurdi zonal office of the anti-graft agency, located at Alor Gordon Street, by 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to reliable sources, the former governor was called in for questioning regarding an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misappropriation that supposedly took place during his time in office.

“Our sources confirm that former governor Ortom is currently present at our Makurdi zonal office in Benue State. He arrived this morning and is still there. The invitation stems from an ongoing investigation into allegations of funds misappropriation during his tenure,” stated an individual familiar with the matter.

Despite attempts to reach the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, through phone calls and text messages, no response was received regarding this development.

Once again, we are left to wonder if this is merely another empty procedure that will yield no meaningful outcome. Far too often, politicians have been summoned for questioning without any indication of wrongdoing requiring investigation or prosecution. And even when the EFCC does decide to pursue a case, the legal system proves to be a hurdle, as we’ve seen in the case of the Governor of Kogi State.
