President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has returned to Abuja after a two-day travel to Guinea Bissau for the Economic Community of West African States’ (ECOWAS) 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government.

This is President Tinubu’s first meeting with the sub-regional authority, and he had emerged as the new ECOWAS Chairman, following in his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari’s footprint who held the position in 2018.

President Tinubu had meanwhile, told the leaders in the West African region that under his leadership, the commission would take democracy seriously.

Tinubu had remarked that even though Democracy was a tough form of government, it was the best form of it.

Tinubu had also stated that insecurity and terrorism were impeding the progress and development of the West Africans.

To this effect, he had cautioned that the threat to peace in the region had risen to alarming heights, with terrorism and military coups now demanding urgent and intensive actions from member states to curtail these threats.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has meanwhile, congratulated Tinubu on emerging Chairman.

Tinubu’s role as the new Chairman includes liaising with the individuals responsible for the daily implementation of ECOWAS policies, making sure that democracy is promoted in the West African region, conflict resolution, liaising with the president of the government of the ECOWAS commission and ensuring that the member states pursue economic integration.
