The demonstration by the Organised Labour against the ‘anti-people’ plans of President Bola Tinubu’s administration has intensified as protesters, on Wednesday morning, August 2, crashed the first gate of the National Assembly, NASS, complex, pushing their way into the establishment.

The protesters later on, made their way to the second gate of the Assembly Complex.

Earlier today, the Organised Labour comprising of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress, TUC, and their affiliate unions, embarked on a protest in Abuja, and in other states including in Lagos, Plateau, Abia, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kano, Rivers, Ebonyi, Katsina, Cross River, Edo, Enugu, Kwara, Ogun, Imo, and Ondo.

The protesters who gathered in their hundreds had convened at the Unity Fountain from where they stormed the NASS Complex.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio is expected to address the protesters, ahead of today’s ministerial nominees screening.

Previously, the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, had informed Channels News TV at the Unity Fountain that nothing would prevent the protest unless a desirable response was gotten from the government.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had on Tuesday, August 1, issued a warning against riotous mass protests across the country.

Recall that the NLC had last week, given a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding for an immediate reversal of all ‘anti-poor’ policies of the federal government including the recent increase in PMS price, raised public school fees, and the release of the eight months withheld salary of federal university lecturers and workers.

Additionally, the union had demanded for an upward review of the minimum wage for workers from N30,000 to N200,000.
