The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has cleared the air over the reports making rounds on the internet about a purported plan to station corps members to Niger Republic for military intervention.
The NYSC had made this disclaimer after a video circulated on social media alleging that corps members would be dispatched by the federal government to fight in the battle for the restoration of democracy in the country.
Eddy Megwa, the Director, Press and Public Relations, had released a statement stating that the scheme was refuting the rumours and that there was truth to it.
The Youth Service scheme had also said that the story must have been fabricated by a skit and content creator, to intentionally drive traffic to his platform.
Megwa had said
“The general public, especially corps members, potential corps members and their parents, should ignore the fabricated story, which verges on criminality in its entirety.”
“Skit makers and content makers are also strongly advised to deviate from disseminating false information capable of destabilising the peace of the nation.
“Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies will leave no stone unturned, to bring the purveyors of the story to justice.”
