The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Ltd has assured Nigerians that it has no plans to increase the pump price of a litre of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, aka petrol.

In a condensed statement the company issued on Monday night, the company encouraged Nigerians to ignore the ‘wild’ speculations of a possible increase in price of the oil product.

Joe Ajareo, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, had on Monday, August 14, issued a warning to the petroleum company against an increment in the petrol price.

But Muhammad Garbadeen, the Spokesman for NNPC Ltd, had in a statement, commented that the company had no plans to inflate petrol price for the third time since petrol subsidy was removed on May 29, 2023.

The statement read:

“Esteemed customers, NNPC Retail Ltd value your patronage, therefore we do not have plans to increase our PMS pump prices as widely rumoured. Please endeabvour to purchase the best quality products at the most affordable prices at our verified Retail Stations across Nigeria.”

There seemed to be no respite for Nigerians after President Bola Tinubu announced the removal of petrol subsidy in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023.

The unanticipated increase in the price of petrol from 184 Naira per litre to more than 600 Naira had happened amidst the unification of the country’s foreign exchange rates by Bola Tinubu’s government, further spelling doom for Nigerian who have been battling inflation rates and trying to makes ends meet daily.
