JUST IN: Presidential Tribunal Strikes Out Suit Petitioning For Shettima’s Disqualification
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has discarded a suit brought before it by the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, looking to disqualify the candidacy of the Nigerian Vice President, Kashim Shettima.

The party had contended that Tinubu was improperly financed by the All Progressives Congress, APC, for appointing Kashim Shettima as his vice-presidential candidate for the 2023 Presidential election.

The opposition party had alleged that Shettima had been the APC candidate for Borno Central Senatorial District on July 14 when he acknowledged his nomination for the vice-presidential candidate of his political party.

But, in adjudging the case on Wednesday, September 6, Justice Haruna Tsanani of the PEPT had ruled that the APM’s suit highlighting the alleged multiple nomination of VP Shettima, was a pre-election matter, and that the Tribunal lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

The court had also maintained that APM lacked locus standi to establish matters hinging on nomination and sponsorship of Kashim Shettima and had also described it as an abuse of court process.
