A suicide bomber in Somalia’s capital city had set off an explosion at a shop selling tea on Friday, September 29, killing about seven people, according to a witness and medical personnel report.

The Friday afternoon bomb blast had occurred at a checkpoint on a path leading to the parliament and the president’s office. The shop is popular for being frequented by soldiers, the eyewitness had said.

Sadik Ali, a police spokesperson, had revealed that the bomb blast had killed five people and injured six others. Ali had also revealed that the bomber had been a member of al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab.

“The suicide bomber had murdered five people who were all drinking tea. The bomber is suspected of having been a member of the Kharijite terrorists.” Ali had said in a statement, using the term the government used to refer to al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab terririst group.

According to a medical personnel at the scene of the incident, the number of dead people were seven and up to eight persons had been injured.
As at the time of filing this report, the Al Shabaab spokesperson had yet to make a comment regarding the incident.

Note that the al-Shabaab group have been claiming responsibility for similar bomb attacks in Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia.

Back in June, as part of the al Shabaab plan to overturn the central government and foist its own strict interpretation of Islamic law, 54 Ugandan military men had been killed at their base in southwest of Mogadishu.
