The Nigerian Senate is geared to amend the 2022 Electoral Act.
This amendment will make electronic transmission of results compulsory, permitting the upload of polling unit-level results and result sheets used at various levels of result collation and permit diaspora voting, at least for presidential elections.
These were all incorporated in a communiqué issued by the upper legislative chamber at the end of its retreat in Ikot Ekpene, in Akwa-Ibom State.
The Senate observed that it was necessary for the Independent National Electoral Commission– INEC to be charged so that the board will improve its efficiency and effectiveness in the preparation and conduct of elections.
The 10th Senate had also further considered that time had come to develop and approve a comprehensive national security strategy that highlight the nation’s security objectives, threats, and policy concerns.
The Red Chamber thereafter stated that such a strategy could serve as a standard framework for legislative action in the security sector.
