According to the National Bureau of Statistics–NBS, Kano, Anambra, and Niger states respectively were the 3 major states that recorded the highest price of Automotive Gas Oil, aka as Diesel, in September 2023.
This information was revealed in the Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel) Price Watch on Saturday, October 22.
Kano State had led the price list with a staggering N967.78, Anambra State had followed closely behind with N950.95 and Niger State came third on the list with N950.55.
The data also revealed that the top three lowest prices recorded in September included the following States, namely: Bayelsa State with N840.16, Katsina State with N840.55 and Rivers State with N840.82.
Recall that Benneth Okorie, the President of the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA), had previously sounded the alarm over the repeated rise in the price of Diesel and its subsequent effect on the Nigerian economy if the government failed to intervene.
In 2009, Diesel was deregulated with an initial price of N100 per litre; however, the price kept on increasing.
Nigerians have witnessed a sharp rising percentage price from N100 per litre in 2009 to an average of N890.80 per litre as at September 2023.
