Ola Aina’s goal for Fulham against fellow relegated Premier League club West Bromwich Albion has made the cut for the Goal of the season award.

The Nigeria international opened his goal scoring account in the English topflight when his deftly struck left footed shot went flying past Sam Johnston and into the top corner to double the advantage for the Cottagers, as they beat the Baggies 2-0 on game-week seven of the just concluded Premier League season.

The goal was so good, it saw the on-loan Torino fullback clinch the Goal of the Month award for November 2020 and has now moved a nudge higher to make the shortlist for the End of Season Awards.

It puts the 24-year-old’s name in the history books as the first Nigerian to win the Premier League Goal of the Month award since it was first introduced three seasons ago.

Also nominated for the annual award are the West Ham United trio of Manuel Lanzini, Jesse Lingard and Sebastien Haller, Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani, Leicester City’s James Maddison, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Tottenham’s Erik Lamela.

With two goals in 32 appearances, Aina’s time at Craven Cottage has now come to an end, with the player confirming his departure on Monday via a farewell message directed towards his teammates, fans and club staff.

A special place. ????

Keep us in mind, @Aina2Ola. ????#FFC

Following his late withdrawal from the Super Eagles squad ahead of Friday’s international friendly against Cameroon, the Chelsea Academy alumni is now expected to take some time off to rest, before linking up with parent club Torino for preseason.
