In a surprising turn of events, popular social media personality Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, might be trading his festive cheer for a jail cell this Eid-il-Fitri holiday.

Bobrisky’s troubles began in early April when he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly mishandling Nigeria’s currency, the Naira. The EFCC accused him of six offenses, four related to Naira abuse and two concerning potential money laundering.

Guilty Plea and a Plea for Forgiveness

Facing the court on April 5th, Bobrisky surprisingly pleaded guilty to the Naira abuse charges. He apologized for his actions, claiming ignorance of the law and promising to educate his massive social media following about proper Naira handling.

Clash of Dates: Sentence or Celebration?

However, the plot thickened when the Nigerian government declared April 9th and 10th public holidays for Eid-il-Fitri. This unexpected development cast a shadow over Bobrisky’s scheduled sentencing, originally set for April 9th.

Justice Awogboro Holds the Key

The big question remains: will Judge Abimbola Awogboro decide to hold court during the holidays and deliver Bobrisky’s sentence? Or will the social media star have to wait a bit longer to learn his fate?

A Lesson for All?

This situation serves as a reminder to everyone, regardless of fame or fortune, to respect the laws of the land. Whether Bobrisky spends his Eid behind bars or not, this case highlights the importance of responsible social media influence and proper handling of national currency.
