A young bricklayer in Osogbo, Nigeria, has been arrested for stealing from a deceased herbalist’s house.

During a routine patrol in the Osunjela village, the suspect was reportedly apprehended by Osun State Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps operatives.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Osogbo and signed by the command spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, the Osun NSCDC Commandant, Dr. Michael Adaralewa, provided additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest.

24-year-old Adedapo Ayobami claims he visited the herbalist for a special soap to improve his finances. Ayobami told the police that the herbalist instructed him to return each month to collect a new soap.

In May, Ayobami went to the herbalist’s house expecting his usual soap, only to learn the herbalist had died.

Disappointed, he returned the next day. This time, however, Ayobami allegedly broke into the house, stealing a television, cooking supplies, and other items. He planned to sell the stolen goods.

Security forces apprehended Ayobami during a routine patrol, noticing him carrying suspicious items.

Why this matters

The incident highlights the importance of community vigilance. While some neighbors saw Ayobami with the stolen goods, they failed to question him. Local officials are urging residents to be more aware of their surroundings and report unusual activity to the authorities.

Bottom Line

Ayobami will face court after the investigation concludes. This isn’t the only recent arrest by the Osun NSCDC. Earlier in May, they apprehended a suspected motorcycle thief and recovered four stolen motorcycles.
