The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have finally taken action and declared a nationwide strike to commence as from Monday, June 3rd, 2024 over the failure of the tripartite committee to agree on a new minimum wage.
The President of the TUC Festus Osifo had declared the strike at a joint news conference with the leadership of the NLC in Abuja on Friday, May 31.
According to the labour leaders, this decision had come after the termination of a previous request to the Federal Government to wrap up all negotiations for a new minimum wage before the month of May came to an end.
The organised labour had pulled out of the negotiation, subsequently rejecting two Federal Government offers, with the latest being N60,000.
