About 80 people have died after a boat capsized in Democratic Republic of Congo, according to a statement by the country’s president.
This tragedy had struck on Wednesday on the Kwa River, in the province of Maï-Ndombe near the Congo-Brazzaville border.
The DR Congo President, Félix Tshisekedi had in a statement he made on social media, said he was “devastated”.
The president had also said those affected would receive aid, while calling for an investigation into why the tragedy had happened.
This is not an isolated incident in DR Congo as deadly boat accidents are vert common in the country, especially as the boats are frequently overcrowded with passengers who are most times, denied safety jackets even when they cannot swim.
