The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zone 11 Command, covering Osun, Ondo, and Oyo States, reported on Tuesday that nine people died in 13 road accidents during the first three days of the Sallah holiday.

The command also noted that 78 individuals sustained various injuries in crashes involving 21 vehicles and 128 people. These injured were promptly transported to hospitals across the zone, while 41 others were rescued unscathed.

In a statement from Osogbo, Osun State capital, the Acting Zonal Commanding Officer for FRSC Zone 11, Leye Adegboyega, reviewed the first three days of the command’s special Sallah operation, which began on Friday. He stated that the Corps deployed 3,018 personnel, 57 patrol vehicles, five ambulances, and two heavy-duty tow trucks.
According to Adegboyega, the personnel covered approximately 65 major routes across the zone daily to maintain high visibility and reduce speed-related crashes. Additionally, standby rescue teams were positioned throughout the zone for rapid response to accident scenes.

The 2024 Eid El Kabir Sallah Special Patrol Operation is set from June 14th to June 21st, 2024, nationwide. The FRSC Zone RS11 Osogbo, which includes Osun, Ondo, and Oyo States, is focused on ensuring smooth traffic flow, reducing accidents, providing quick rescue services, and clearing road obstructions during the Sallah festivities. To achieve this, they have deployed over 3,000 personnel, 57 patrol vehicles, 5 ambulances, and 2 tow trucks, particularly on major routes like the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway and Sagamu-Ore-Benin Expressway.

In the first three days, they arrested 737 traffic offenders, conducted 219 public safety awareness activities, and provided rescue services for victims of 13 accidents involving 21 vehicles and 128 people. The accidents resulted in 9 deaths, 78 injuries, and 41 people being rescued unhurt.

Adegboyega urged the public to use the roads responsibly to help reduce accidents and save lives.
