The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the creation of a new ministry dedicated to livestock development, in a bid to address the longstanding conflicts between herders and farmers. The Ministry of Livestock Development will be responsible for developing and implementing policies aimed at promoting sustainable livestock management practices, improving the livelihoods of herders and farmers, and reducing conflicts between them.

The establishment of the ministry is a response to the growing concern over the clashes between herders and farmers, particularly in Benue State, which have resulted in significant losses on both sides. The ministry will work towards finding a lasting solution to this issue, promoting peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers.

The creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development is a significant development in the country’s efforts to modernize its livestock management practices. The ministry will be responsible for developing and implementing policies aimed at improving the livestock sector, including the creation of ranches and the promotion of sustainable grazing practices.

This development is seen as a positive step towards addressing the herder-farmer conflicts and promoting sustainable livestock management practices in Nigeria
