Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, the vice-chancellor of Federal University Dutsinma in Katsina State, has made accusations that certain members of the university’s staff were acting as informants for bandits.

Bichi revealed this to reporters in Katsina on Tuesday, stating that a security agency has been tasked with conducting more research on the suspected staff members’ contacts. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the alleged bandits have been robbing the region and capturing university employees and students along with their families.

Following a recent attack that claimed the life of a university employee, his coworkers peacefully protested the lack of security.

The vice-chancellor claims that although the school administration is making every effort to stop similar occurrences from happening again, things are becoming worse.

What they’re saying

“This informant issue is concerning; therefore, look into those we suspect of disclosing the personal information of their coworkers and students,” Bichi stated.

“We found them and turned over their contact information to one of the security agencies for further investigation.”

“But we haven’t heard back from the securities. “These suspects are our employees.

“We have substantial reasons to accuse them of being bandit informants,” the vice chancellor confessed.”

“In response to the problem, the state’s Police Command stated that they were unaware of the issue but vowed to look into it further.

“ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the command’s spokesman, responded by urging the public to always provide them with information that would help them resolve security issues.

Concerns

  1. Lack of security: The university seems to be struggling to keep students and staff safe.
  2. Due process: Accusing staff without concrete evidence could damage reputations.
  3. Communication: There seems to be a disconnect between the university and security forces.

Here are some possible next steps:

  1. Transparency: The university should be clear with staff about the accusations and the evidence they have.
  2. Joint Investigation: The university and security forces should collaborate on a thorough investigation.
  3. Increased Security: The university should explore ways to improve security measures on campus.
  4. Support for Staff: The university should offer support services to staff who feel unsafe.
