Speaking at a joint press conference convened by Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa at the Defence Headquarters, Nandap stated, “We have identified certain diaspora sponsors and placed them on our watch list. If they attempt to come into Nigeria, we will be notified and decide accordingly, handing them over to relevant authorities.”
In response to the protests, some additional personnel have been deployed at land and airport entry points while border security has been enhanced by Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). This is aimed at preventing outside interference.
Some sponsors have been confirmed according to Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun but he did not elaborate on that. He confirmed that several accounts associated with these people had been blocked, noting that many reside overseas.
Director General of State Security Services (SSS), Yusuf Bichi, represented by spokesperson Peter Afunanya, stated that the agency is monitoring identified individuals and collaborating with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit to uncover more information about those involved.
