Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, while quoting a report published by the Italian media outlet Calciomercato, confirms that Chelsea has agreed to the signing of Spanish-born Nigerian striker Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid for £35 million. This transfer is expected to see Chelsea outbid Bayer Leverkusen and other interested parties in securing the player’s services.

The deal was completed after Julian Alvarez’s confirmation at Atletico Madrid, which smoothed the way for the signing of Omorodion into the Premier League. Chelsea has offered Omorodion a seven-year contract, thus making him their eighth summer signing. He will link up in London with fellow Nigerian Tosin Adarabioyo.

First, Atletico Madrid was unwilling to give up on Omorodion, who had joined the team just one year prior. His fortunes changed, however, with the arrival of Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth.

Currently featuring at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Omorodion will have to fight hard for a place in Enzo Maresca’s squad. He is going to fight for a place in the starting XI with former Barcelona starlet Marc Guiu, Nicolas Jackson, and probably another new signing, considering that Chelsea is reportedly interested in Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen.

Omorodion’s arrival adds to Chelsea’s options in attack, pointing out the strategy of building a young and dynamic squad. His classy performances drew interest from some top European clubs; he will make this a step in his career with Chelsea.

As Omorodion prepares to make the move to Chelsea, one thing that will be of interest to fans is how he can adapt to the team and offer himself to the campaign. Versatility and poaching ability are qualities that will make a striker very special to Chelsea in their pursuit of English Premiership and other honours.
