Mr. Awe, who is the founder of Jidaw.com Ltd., a company that provides leading tech solutions, said that WhatsApp’s threat gave more room for financial prospects than caring about its users. He insisted on appealing against it rather than intimidating the Nigerian government.
The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) fined WhatsApp owned by Meta Platforms Incorporation, after a three year long probe into its alleged breaches of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) as well as the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR). During this time, they discovered that WhatsApp had committed several offences like forcing its privacy policy onto people using it.
Awe stated that we need to make less use of foreign technological solutions in Nigeria due to issues related to national security and sustainable growth. Furthermore, he called for investments in online research, start up help programs, digital inclusion, strategies partnership models and promoting local inclusion.
“One way to minimize risks from being over-reliant on foreign platforms is for Nigeria to give technology self-sufficiency top priority,” Awe emphasized.
