“Strike Won’t Disrupt Operations” — Kenya Airports Authority

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) had revealed on Friday that it had set up contingency measures in place to prevent a strike by the country’s main aviation union that is scheduled to begin on August 19. This would ensure that the strike action won’t disrupt the airport operations.

This development is coming as the Kenya Aviation Workers Union, which represents workers at airports and the national carrier Kenya Airways, had said it would launch an industrial action from Monday over a proposed deal with India’s Adani Airports Holdings to develop the country’s biggest airport in the capital Nairobi.

The union also revealed its hopes for the Adani deal to lead to job losses and bring in non-Kenyan workers.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s government has said that the airport was not to be sold and that no decision had been made on whether to forge ahead with what it tagged a proposed public-private partnership to upgrade the East African travel hub.

What They are Saying

“Discussions are ongoing between the Ministry of Roads and Transport, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, KAA Management and Kenya Aviation Workers Union to reach an amicable agreement,” the airports authority said in a statement.
