The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is back for its 2024 edition and the celebrities who attended did not disappoint, gracing the red carpet with their flamboyant but gorgeous styles — an unsurprising feat given that the VMAs has solidly established itself as the crux of pop culture, while still celebrating the best of the best in music videos and performances.

Music aside, the VMAs have carved out a special niche in the fashion world. Celebrities attending the yearly event often make bold, avant-garde, and even controversial fashion statements on the red carpet, an occurrence that has evolved the event to becoming a platform where artists continue to push the boundaries of accepted style and self-expression.

From Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress in 2010 to Lil Nas X’s always dazzling, futuristic ensembles, the VMAs have given us some of the most unforgettable fashion moments in history. For this year’s edition, we’ll be taking a look at the new trends and iconic looks that were seen on the red carpet.

The Best Dressed Stars

Taylor Swift

The multi-award winning singer and songwriter, Taylor Swift walked the MTV VMAs carpet in a gorgeous yellow and black plaid gown. Her zip-up bodice was fitted to a black mini skirt. Long, black leather biker gloves, thigh-high boots, and a poufy train were the perfect finishing touches to this stellar outfit.

Megan De Stallion

The ‘Mamushi’ crooner and host of the 2024 MTV VMAs had gone for a sultry dark vibe in the black bodice she wore for her red-carpet appearance. The standout feature of her attire was the drop-down tulle train that was cinched at the knees. Accessory wise- Megan opted for simplicity, letting her black bob hair do all the talking.

Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina brought class and elegance to the VMAs in a shimmery, silvery, strapless vintage Bob Mackie gown (once worn by the legendary Madonna) featuring shiny, floral embellishments and a scalloped neckline.

Sabrina Carpenter

Anitta

Morticia Addams was found shaking –with delight of course– over this artist’s chosen attire for the music awards. Anitta looked like a beautiful gothic bride in a diaphanous white tie-up minidress, thigh-high stockings, and a white hood made of the same material as the stockings.

Anitta

Chappell Roan

The “Good Luck, Babe” singer arrived to the music event looking like an ethereal and medieval princess in a forest green overcoat, a see-through burgundy gown and a long toy sword. To buttress the look, she employed the services of a man to act like a knight who stand guard behind her.

Chappell Roan

Lisa

This stunning VMAs nominee opted for a, classic Mugler gown that featured a tight bodice, long-sleeved gloves, and a fitted hood (which in my opinion, was the show stealer).

Lisa

Halsey

Halsey came through to the MTV VMAs dripping in a red hot cheetah print gown gotten from the 1996 archives of Versace. Tiny, shiny beads were embellished in choice locations on the gown.

Halsey

Coco Jones

Coco Jones

For the 2024 MTV VMAs,
The singer and actress looked absolutely divine in the silver gossamer-ry Lever Couture dress she wore to the red carpet. The dress features cuts of draping metallic fabric flowing behind her as if it were ribbon to be tied on a present.
